Frequently asked questions

Questions and answers about Precision Transport services

Why is blocking and bracing important?

Improperly secured cargo can shift during transit, causing product damage, trailer instability, and safety hazards. Proper blocking and bracing protects your freight, keeps drivers safe, and ensures compliance with FMCSA cargo securement regulations.

Does Precision Transport provide blocking and bracing services?

Yes. Our team provides professional blocking and bracing services at our terminal and warehouse locations, ensuring your cargo is properly secured in full compliance with federal regulations before it moves.

Is blocking and bracing required by law?

Yes. The FMCSA Cargo Securement Rules (49 CFR Part 393) provide detailed requirements for how freight must be secured during highway transportation. Non-compliance can result in fines and liability for cargo damage.

What is blocking and bracing?

Blocking and bracing is the method of securing cargo inside a container or trailer to prevent movement during transit. Blocking uses materials like wood beams, airbags, or metal bars to restrict movement, while bracing anchors cargo to the walls, floors, or structural elements of the trailer.

What materials are used for blocking and bracing?

Common materials include wooden beams and planks, inflatable dunnage bags, steel or aluminum bars, strapping and tie-downs, and foam padding. The materials selected depend on the type, weight, and fragility of your cargo.
